Help Prevent Suicide and Raise Awareness

As you may know Surreal Coffee Roasters always donates 10% of sales to charitable and humanitarian causes. This weekend, we’re dedicating our donation to the Tuscaloosa Out of the Darkness Walk, which supports and raises funds for suicide prevention and awareness (sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention). We’re grateful for anything we can contribute to this cause and hope you’ll join us in this effort. Read more to find out how.

Surreal Coffee is specifically contributing to Team UA English who’s raising funds for and participating in the walk on Sunday, 10/13. Aside from bringing you freshly roasted, specialty coffees, I’m also a faculty member in the English Department at UA and I’m fundraising/ participating in the walk alongside my Team UA English teammates.

Please join us in fighting suicide and raising awareness by supporting Team UA English in our efforts. You can help by

  1. Offering financial support: So far, we’ve received several generous donations, and I’m hopeful that we can raise even more for suicide prevention/mental health awareness. There’s no amount too small; every dime is meaningful.
o You can donate via my Facebook Fundraiser link (donations here help me to reach my individual goal but also go toward total team fundraising for the walk).
o You can donate to anyone on our roster through Team UA English’s Tuscaloosa Out of the Darkness Walk team page
o You can make a contribution in person at Surreal Coffee Roasters this Saturday, 10/12, at Tuscaloosa River Market (7am-noon)
  2. Sharing links via email, social media, conversation
o About the AFSP’s Tuscaloosa Out of the Darkness Walk
o About suicide prevention and suicide/mental health awareness: Tide Against Suicide, the UA Counseling Center, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
Every share helps to spread awareness, and anything you can do is meaningful and appreciated.
  3. Offering written support on our Team UA English page and/or on social media
  4. Sharing information about the event, about open conversations about suicide/mental illness, about suicide prevention, and/or about the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s efforts

Thank you all for your consideration and for any help you’re able to offer. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Sincerely,
Cade Collum
